invisible 2004

can you see through me
am i transparent, do i glow
do i have substance
is there bone in my marrow
are my eyes open
if i had feelings would they show
if i was dying
would you even want to know

alibi 2004

i do not have an alibi
life's so fast i'm scared to blink
the page is full, my pen is dry
my heart's run out of ink

i can't deny i've tried to fly
my feet are rooted to the ground
sink or swim? i'd rather cry
than live a life that's watered down

Exhale 1/9/00

What I see:
lines curving
drawing cleanly
swoop of the pen creates
the picture not complete

What I feel:
satisfaction
completion
fulfillment
pour it into the painting
into the cup of page
express the swimming image

What I question:
what is it
why do I see it
why can I not create it
why can it not be

Release - exhale

Joan 03/01/2000

To the waters
You awake her and bring brightness to her dreams
Youth and energy shine in her eyes,
spew forth from her mouth,
and come to life in her movements,
when she's thinking of you.
A vibrant lover
She clings to you
Her flute a silver extention of her passion
Melodious and free,
she expresses all that fills her soul.
She paints images of you:
Her brush the words she speaks, the music she plays;
A canvas in the many hues of her love.

To the girl
I see your longing, for that which completes you
Dive in, plunge into the depths,
The arms of your lover, the ocean.
As the waters rush over you,
encompass and refresh you,
be free!
Live your dreams, your fantasies
Return to your true love,
Let your spirit soar like the Eagle,
and set each other free.

Untitled 2/12/00

Maybe if I stroke your face
All your fears will go away.
If I lay my hand on your heart
Can I draw out all your pain?
If I hold you in my arms
Maybe you won't feel so alone.
Are you frightened? It's okay
I'll catch you when you fall.
Such a hard road
Is what you face.
I'll face it with you if you'll let me.
You can trust me
I promise.
Sleep tonight
I'll pray for you.

Egos Thorns & Crowns - date unknown

Sign my name in blood
For the 1st spring rose in bud
Give up my firstborn
For the light of another morn
Too much to sacrifice
To satisfy our lust and vice
When will we lay down
Our egos, thorns & crowns

See her strike a pose
Dressed up in the emperor's clothes
See him take his cross
With eyes so full of loss
Vote for a government
Wonder where our choices went
When will we lay down
Our egos, thorns & crowns

Untitled 5/4/99

Posies posing in autumn rain
Not long til you'll be gone again
Smile on me if you've got the time
Now, in this moment you are mine

Green leafs sparking with morning dew
How long since I've looked at you
Drops of Heaven's wine that fell
A mystery only One can tell

Nodding off to sleep I pray
You'll bless again the next sweet day
And may Your face be shining seen
In all of nature's glories green

Untitled 4/22/01

Oh, how I wish I were a poet
So I could say to you
(in words that would have meaning)
that my heart cries every time
I walk away from you.
And how I long to hear you tell me
(as mr. Rochester to Jane)
that our heartstrings are tied together for good.
One day I'm scared to wake up from this dream
But a dream this good is better than none at all for me
So I kiss you goodnight
And hope to God you'll be back soon
I walk away and hide my tears
I'll grace my pillow with their dew
And my ink will stain these pages
as songs run through my head
I'll send my prayers to the heavens
And lay myself to bed.

Romance 12/12/05

Romance only ruins things better left alone
Tangled webs we weave leaving much to be atoned
Circumstance can take the blame for only just so long
Foolish intuitions they can only lead us wrong
Fire forges metal into something true and strong
Yet melts the coldest ice until it’s water’s running gone
Flame like that can burn a heart t’ward what it looks upon
For it cannot be quenched before temptation is withdrawn
Avoid it we cannot a futile effort that would be
Asking for omission would be a fruitless plea
Knowledge that it comes and goes just as the wind is blown
Is the only armor ‘gainst the snares romantic whims have sewn
