Romance only ruins things better left alone
Tangled webs we weave leaving much to be atoned
Circumstance can take the blame for only just so long
Foolish intuitions they can only lead us wrong
Fire forges metal into something true and strong
Yet melts the coldest ice until it’s water’s running gone
Flame like that can burn a heart t’ward what it looks upon
For it cannot be quenched before temptation is withdrawn
Avoid it we cannot a futile effort that would be
Asking for omission would be a fruitless plea
Knowledge that it comes and goes just as the wind is blown
Is the only armor ‘gainst the snares romantic whims have sewn
